Today, as most have heard, President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. The news reports state that he was nominated two weeks into his presidency. So the question is: isn't that a bit early? Especially given that he hasn't quite achieve a whole lot since inauguration?

Is this vote simply a sign of relief that Bush and his group are gone? Is it to make a political point? The other issue is that President Obama will now have the weight of the Peace Prize on his shoulders if he ever has to decide to go to war or to extend war. Will this Peace Prize tie his hands?

What do you think?

Well, the poor guy seemed embarrassed during his acceptance speech. I quite agree that this Peace Award was for 3 reasons:

1. A "Happy that George W. Bush is gone!" award - anyone looks good after Bush, even Darth Vader would have gotten the Nobel!
2. Encouragement from the Nobel committee for Obama as he tries to accomplish his goals, including peace in the Middle East (which will not happen any time soon), and
3. To tie Obama's hands if he ever wants or needs to conduct or expand military action.

It was probably more of #3 than anything else, as far as I'm concerned.
