The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Dean’s Office for Medical Education and Curricular Affairs is seeking a Director of Medical Education Research and Curriculum Evaluation to conduct student assessment, program evaluation, and medical education research. Job responsibilities will include development, validation, and assessment of medical student performance as well as evaluation of curricular programs at all nine IUSM campuses.
Specific responsibilities include:
1) research design and analysis of student performance and assessment of program effectiveness of the new integrated competency-based curriculum (including horizontal and vertical integration of basic, clinical, and behavioral and social sciences across all four years of training);
2) preparation and analysis of student and faculty questionnaires;
3) assisting with qualitative research and related analyses;
4) assisting with the planning and evaluation of education technology innovations, distance learning, simulations, and standardized patients in the evaluation of IUSM students and education programs;
5) providing consultation and services to funded projects;
6) preparation of institutional recommendations and reports;
7) publishing and presenting original research in the area of medical education and curriculum assessment; and
8) securing intra- and extramural funds for educational innovations and programs.
Knowledge of one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS), evidence of substantial responsibility for educational program evaluation, excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, strong organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to work under strict deadlines are required. The candidate should be self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and with multi-disciplinary teams.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent degree in education, psychology or a related field and have two years of related experience in health professions education research or a M.D. degree combined with an education degree or two years experience in medical education research. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Medical Education and Curricular Affairs.
